Expert Witness Workshop

QELA Expert Witness Workshop 2026 – Land Court of Queensland

The Expert Witness Workshop is designed to provide practical training on presenting expert evidence in the Land Court of Queensland and is conducted over five sessions.

Using practical examples and working in small groups, participants will receive personalised training and instruction from a panel of legal professionals and experienced expert witnesses. The objective of these workshops is to assist those interested in becoming expert witnesses in the future.

These workshops will cover all aspects of being an expert witness, including:

  • an overview of the court process,
  • experts' duty to the court,
  • the role of experts,
  • an overview of the rules of evidence,
  • practical tips for cross examination,
  • joint expert meetings and reports,
  • participation in a CMEE, and
  • an understanding of participating in a Hearing process.

Suitability of Participants
Participants will have the benefit of a mentor expert in their area of expertise and the course will culminate in a mock Court hearing before a Member of the Land Court. Due to the structure of the workshops, QELA will review EOIs received to create teams of similar areas of practice.

  • Participants should be currently employed in a consulting field.
  • Participants should have 5+ years post graduate experience in their chosen field.
  • No previous Court experience is necessary.

Due to limited places and the need to generate teams, preference will be provided to QELA members.
